Bio

Dr. Irwin uses X-ray satellite observatories to investigate the nature of galaxies, clusters of galaxies, and compact stellar remnants (neutron stars and black holes) accreting matter from neighboring stars in binary stellar systems.

Dr. Irwin received his doctoral degree from the University of Virginia in 1997. He was a Chandra Fellow at the University of Michigan from 1999-2002. Dr. Irwin joined the faculty of The University of Alabama in 2009.
