High Energy Theory Seminar

September 16, 2016 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

First Talk

Title: Overview of Soliton and Instanton Physics

Speaker: Digesh Raut (UA)

Abstract:
This lecture will provide an introduction to the physics of Solitons and Instantons in  Quantum Field Theory. Later lectures will encompass how Instantons can help provide further insights into vacuum structure of gauge theories and provide solutions to certain classes of problems within QFT.

Second Talk

Title: Representing Markets using the Boltzmann Distribution
Speaker: Alexander Daniels (UA)

Abstract:
The applicability of using the Boltzmann distribution for modeling economic
markets is reviewed. This review provides a clear, yet rigorous account of using a Boltzmann-inspired statistical formulation of market behaviour. The distribution’s use for
practical analysis is encouraged and suggestions for future study are also given
