Colloquium – Yi Lin – Photoelectron Eyes on Equilibrium and Light-Driven Quantum Material

March 21, 2023 @ 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Speaker: Dr. Yi Lin (Columbia University)

Title: Photoelectron Eyes on Equilibrium and Light-Driven Quantum Material

What could happen when light meets with quantum materials? And how to discover new materials and paths for light-matter interactions? The horizon for addressing these questions has been rapidly extending, due to the recent advances in laser technology, discoveries of novel physical principles and the emergence of engineered materials, offering unparalleled opportunities for applications in energy, sensing and information. In this talk, I will introduce my research in exploring light-driven phenomena and identifying optically nontrivial materials by visualizing materials’ electronic band structure in both equilibrium and excited states, via synchrotron-based or time- and angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopies. Two thrusts in excitonic phenomena and charge-ordered materials will be substantially presented with more chances briefly discussed for topological phases and/or photonic devices.
