Title: Solidity of liquids and the emergence of the k-gap:
from soft matter to relativistic hydrodynamics and more
Abstract: We discuss the presence of solid-like propagating transverse waves in liquids using Maxwell-Frenkel interpolation and its physical implications. We provide a theoretical explanation based on the emergence of a momentum gap in the dispersion relation of the transverse modes. We show how the k-gap can be derived in several
different contexts from relativistic hydrodynamics to holographic gravitational models. Finally we speculate about its role for EM waves in a medium and quantum dissipative systems.
